Fire Destroy's
Historic Rialto Theatre
November 4, 2006
Area resident's
are still in shock over the fire that engulfed the Rialto Theatre.
Saturday evening at approximately 6:00 P.M. flames were reported
inside the theatre and the volunteer fire department quickly responded.
Firefighter's from surrounding communities also responded, and
through their hard work and committment, several surrounding buildings
were saved.
Listed on
the National Register of Historic Places, the Rialto has been
home to movies, play's and school event's for many years. Children
and adults alike would flock to the Rialto on Friday, Saturday
and Sunday nights for a reasonably priced movie, buttery popcorn
and socialization.
The loss this
brings to the community is beyond words. Saturday evening adults
and children alike were crying in the streets as the watched the
Rialto being swallowed by flames. Memories went up in smoke as
many adults were heard saying remarks such as "I had my first
kiss in that theatre", "my mother had her first date
there", and "I remember going there in 1935 for my first
movie".
Below are
some links to stories about the fire and the theatre. The pictures
on this website were taken Sunday morning as the flames were still
burning inside the theatre.
