The Museum's Visitor Center is located at the intersection of Main Street and Texas Avenue.

Parking

Parking is available on Main Street outside of the museum or in our parking lot on Conley Avenue.

The Conley Avenue parking lot includes Truck and RV parking.

Bike Parking

Complimentary bike racks are available against the Old Montana Prison Wall outside of the Visitor Center. Overnight bike parking is prohibited.

Please lock your bike. The Old Montana Prison Complex is not responsible for any unattended bicycles.

How do I volunteer at the Old Montana Prison Complex?

The Old Montana Prison Complex is always looking for new volunteers. If you would like to volunteer with us, use this link to fill out our volunteer form and a museum associate will reach out to you.

What items are not permitted in the Attractions?

Items that are not allowed in any of our 5 attractions. - Firearms or Ammunition - Knives - Cigarettes or E-Cigarettes - Skateboards, Scooters, Rollerblades - Large Bags or Backpacks. (Infant bags, small backpacks, and purses are allowed)

What items are permitted in the Attractions?

- Digital Cameras - Video Cameras - Dogs (as long as they are leashed and not disruptive to other visitors) - Strollers or Double Strollers - Food and drinks are allowed in all of our attractions except for the Montana Auto Collection

Is smoking allowed at the Complex?

No, smoking of any and all kinds is not permitted anywhere on the Old Montana Prison Complex property.

Is Photography or Videography Allowed?

Yes, the Old Montana Prison Complex does allow personal photography and videography for non-commercial use unless given permission by the Old Montana Prison Complex. No drones, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, staging equipment, and/or lighting equipment is not permitted at any time unless given persmission by museum staff.

Commercial Use Photography or Videography?

Working members of media or film companies wishing to use photos, videos, or to shoot on location must be reviewed and approved by the Complexe's Marketing and Advertising Coordinator. You can submit a request by calling (406) 846-3111 Ext. 4 or email Office@pcmaf.org

Does the Complex have wheelchairs?

Yes, the Complex does have limited wheelchairs for the public. You can request them from our staff at the front desk of the Old Montana Prison Complex Visitor Center.

Is food available at the Complex?

There is no food available at the Complex. We do have our Prison Cow Ice Cream shop with delicious cones and sundaes available from May through September.

About Us

The Powell County Museum and Arts Foundation is a local non-profit membership organization which operates the Old Montana Prison as a Museum. As the Old Prison Complex contains buildings located on three blocks outside the Old Prison walls, other collections have been brought in to fill five museums.
